Chantecaille Spring 2013: Daphne, Rose Delice, and Pink Melon Swatches and Review

You've probably seen me profess my love for Chantecaille Lip Chics by now. If not, please click here and here for my reviews of the formula and other shades. Suffice it to say, Lip Chic is quite possibly my favorite lipstick formula ever, or is perhaps tied for #1 (with Guerlain Rouge Automatique). Of course, this means that whenever Chantecaille releases new Lip Chic shades, I phone-stalk my local counter until they arrive and then immediately skip there to check them out. For Spring 2013, Chantecaille released two new shades: Daphne, a pale pink-peach, and Rose Delice, a cool, vivid pink. I barely had to swatch them to know I wanted both!

Another new product caught my eye at the counter, Pink Melon Luminous Gloss, because I am always on the hunt for natural-looking pale pinks... I just can't get enough of them! I had never tried the Luminous Gloss formula, but I was willing to give it a shot. Of course, I completely destroyed my counter's tester! The gloss tube ate all the bristles from the disposable applicator in one fell swoop - one fell swallow? - and I pulled the applicator back out of the tube to find nothing but a thin tube of white plastic. Oops. So I bought that one without even testing it on my lips, partially out of pure embarrassment. I'm glad I did though, because I ADORE it and now I want to try the Luminous Glosses in more shades!

From left to right here, we have Daphne, Rose Delice, and Pink Melon:

And here you can see each of them on my lips, in the same order as above, in different FOTD looks:

Daphne Lip Chic
Rose Delice Lip Chic
Pink Melon Luminous Lip Gloss, when my lips are "normal"
Pink Melon Luminous Lip Gloss immediately after lip exfoliation, which makes my lips
much rosier - I imagine it would look more like this on very pigmented lips!

Some of my long-time readers may remember that, several years ago, I once professed love for Chantecaille's Brilliant Gloss formula (link here). While I still think this is a nice formula, my tastes and the way I feel about makeup have evolved over the years, and it is no longer my favorite. The Brilliant Glosses are as non-sticky as they come, which is nice when you have long hair, but it significantly reduces their wear time. They are also incredibly sheer.

I find that these days I prefer thicker and longer-wearing gloss formulas, along the lines of MAC Lipglasses, Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Glosses (another product I reviewed years ago!), Le Metier de Beaute Lip Cremes, and now that I've discovered them, Chantecaille Luminous Glosses. I also tend to prefer glosses that provide more opaque color, though my collection demonstrates to me that I will accept a few exceptions! Of course, my all-time favorite formula now is Yves Saint Laurent Glossy Stains, but they are a completely different animal in my eyes due to their staining capacity and I hate to lump them in the same boat as "normal" lip glosses. (Really need to swatch all of my Glossy Stains soon! I am such a bum!)

Anyway, I digress. I am thrilled with all three of my new Chantecaille lip products, and I will be sure to check out more Luminous Gloss shades in the future. What do you think of these shades, readers? I can't wait until the weather warms up - I think Rose Delice will be a summer favorite of mine, for sure!

  1. Rose Delice! OOH LALA! The Lip Chics are wonderful and these colors look lovely on you!!
