Sometime in the past year or so while playing around in Sephora and Nordstrom stores, I started to notice that the Sin blush testers at counters did not look like the Sin I had at home. Similar, yes, but not the same. I started to think I must be crazy (and I think the sales associates did, too, when I mentioned it), so I bought a brand-new NARS Sin about a month ago to compare the two at home.
Here they are, side by side. On the left is the old NARS Sin, and on the right is the new NARS Sin:
I know, I know, they don't look much different. But look at the swatches! Again, old is on the left, new on the right:
I never heard anything about NARS blushes being reformulated. Have you, readers? Do you think this is due to a common reformulation, or has the color changed over the years due to quality control issues (either my old one changing color over time in the pan, or the batches from the factory changing over time because no one is bothering to keep them consistent)? More importantly, which version do you like better? :)

The exact same thing happened to me with my Nars Orgasm blush. The Orgasm blush that I purchased a few years ago never showed up on me. I have new one and it shows up and it's a slightly different color. I like the older version of Sin.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting about your Orgasm blush! Now that you mention it, I think I've heard tales online of that one changing over time too. Maybe this problem is more common than I thought.
DeleteI like both versions, myself! It's a pain because now I have two of the "same" blush and can't figure out which version to get rid of. Oops.
Hm, I have to say, I like the new shade a bit better. The shimmer is more subtle and it looks like it wouldn't go muddy on me like the older Sin did (alas).
ReplyDeleteThe shimmer definitely is subtler. I still like both versions though! For some reason the older Sin has never gone muddy on me, perhaps because I'm so fair.
DeleteIs it possible that over time the blush itself changes in texture/coloration? I know that some dyes/etc can change in different temperatures over time and was thinking perhaps that's it. However... the shimmer would've stayed the same... so that doesn't account for that. I've heard this happen with Orgasm blush too. This might warrant contacting NARS to see what's up with that.

DeleteMy old Sin looks just like yours. I think it may have started out life a bit brighter and got more brown over time, because everytime I reach for it I expect it to be more berryish and am always suprised to find it kind of brown
ReplyDeleteThat's funny - I remember thinking of it for years as more mauve, and in my mind mauve has brown tones, so I think mine has always had at least a little bit of brown to it. Perhaps it has gotten browner over time, though.
DeleteTime is going to change it plus every time you use your brush on your old one you are adding oil to it inadvertently.
