I haven't used Maybelline mascara in recent years, but when I saw the (ridiculous) display (with a tiger) for the new Cat Eyes mascara (seriously, the tiger has eyelashes), it piqued my curiosity (did I mention the tiger?). I remembered how I used to use and love their mascaras, and this was something new and different, so I figured I'd give it a shot.
First off, here is the wand:
Sadly, I just couldn't find love in this mascara no matter how hard I tried - and trust me, I tried. I used it for a full week and just got angrier and angrier with each use. I kept poking myself with the brush, getting mascara all over my upper and lower eyelids each time - thank goodness I keep Q-Tips by my sink! I told myself I just had to get used to using that kind of brush, but even after a week, I was poking myself as much as on the first day. I was also frustrated with the "cat eye" results. In a sense it did deliver, and I got the "full, spiked lashes at the corners" as advertised, but what that meant in reality was that the lashes on the inner corner of my eye were barely, lightly coated - they looked like they were only tinted, no extra volume or length whatsoever - and the lashes on the outer corner of my eye were chunky, clumpy, and definitely spiky. (Even my boyfriend observed on his own that "your eyelashes look very spiky today!" at one point.) It wasn't a look I was happy with at all.
Before I go on further, here are the pictures of me wearing it! This is two coats on top and one on bottom. Please note that I have lightly blurred out a few spots where, big surprise, I got little dots of mascara on my eyelids.
Now, even though I couldn't stand it, I wanted to give this mascara a fair chance, so I gave it to my friend Casey to try and asked her to let me know how she liked it so I could include her opinion in my review (with her permission). Guess what? She hated it too, vehemently. In her words, "I hate the brush and the formula. It went on SO thin and didn't really DO anything. And was it brown? [I told her it was black.] ... well, it looks brown on me! What an awful color."
On the positive side, I found it did last well on me even when my eyes got watery, yet it was still easy to remove with eye makeup remover, and it didn't irritate my eyes in the least (few mascaras do, but you never know).
Have you been curious about this mascara, or have you tried it yourself? What did you think of it?
