Yo!
A brand new Target just opened up today a block from where I work, so I checked it out on a break today and of course HAD to stop by the cosmetics section. Lo and behold, there was a display I'd never heard a thing about with four new Maybelline Color Tattoo eyeshadow shades! The display said Limited Edition! and the colors were all bright and cool tones, so of course I was irresistibly compelled and bought all four. I have several of the shades from the permanent Color Tattoo line and love them (swatches to come... someday) so I figured my chances were good of liking these. Here they are in their jars:
In short... all four colors are stunning, but as for the quality, it's a mixed bag. Ready, Set, Green and Test my Teal are creamy without being creasy, pigmented, and blendable. Fuchsia Fever requires some TLC to make it work, but if you're willing to put in the effort, you can get decent results. I swiped some over my lid with a fingertip, let it dry for about one minute, then patted some more on and let that dry. I got pretty smooth and even coverage that way and almost-opaque color. In the pictures below (a super-quick EOTD to show the color - I just smeared some of the Color Tattoo on OVER my current powder shadow that I've had on for work all day - so no judging, please!) it looks a bit patchy, and I suppose it could be, but in real life as far as my scrutinizing eyes can tell the color looks even and very pretty. This is just Fuchsia Fever on the lid and MAC Perfect Topping MSF used as highlight.
The last one, Blue on By, was a tremendous disappointment. It looks good in the swatch below, but that's because I swiped some on, let it dry, swiped more on, got mad as it got even patchier with the second swipe, let it dry, patted more on top, let it dry, and patted MORE on top of that. This one is, sadly, just not very pigmented and impossible to layer successfully on the eye. I tried, and all I got was an ultra-sheer 80's powder blue tint on my eyelids, despite my best efforts to pack on the color. Blue on By reminds me a lot of the also-limited-edition Shiseido Proenza Schouler Blue cream shadow, which was a very similar color and which I had similar performance issues with. Huge bummer, because the color is BEAUTIFUL in the pot!
What do you think? Will you be picking up any of these? I'm excited to try the two that swatched more nicely - I think I may do an EOTD next with Ready, Set, Green and Test my Teal together. If I do, I'll be sure to post it!

LE color tattoos? ermahgerd!! can you do a color comparison to the currently existing ones?
ReplyDeleteHi! Unfortunately, I don't think a comparison would be very useful, as I don't currently have any similar shades in the permanent line (only the neutrals and the orange!). If I get more and it makes sense to do a comparison though, I will!
DeleteOMG! LE Color Tattoos?! So exciting!!!!! I need that green so badly!
ReplyDeleteIs the formula as good?
ReplyDeleteThey are so pretty. Especially the green and fuchsia.
I think 24hr Color Tattoo are great. Period.
I think the formula on all of them is good except for the blue one, as I wrote in the post :) and the fuchsia one requires a bit of layering but is definitely workable!
DeleteI *need* that green one! Thanks for posting!
ReplyDeleteI was so excited when i heard Maybelline was releasing more colors, and they look gorgeous, but hopefully they'll release a few neutral ones so they can be used as an every-day eyeshadow base.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the swatches!

Are these available in the US? I'm such a makeup junkie
ReplyDeleteYep, I'm located in Washington state.
Deletemore blue! :D i am a blue eyeshadow junkie.
ReplyDeleteI think that I'll grab Ready Set Green and Test My Teal. They will make a nice addition to my little Color Tattoo family. :)
ReplyDeleteOh... I was kind of hoping there would be more neutrals. I don't think I'll get any of these. The green does look lovely, but unfortunately wouldn't look lovely on me personally.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping they'll come out with more neutrals too - in the meantime though I've been quite happy with Bold Gold, Tough as Taupe and Bad to the Bronze (all neutrals from their permanent line).
DeleteI really wanted a more champagne color to come out.

ReplyDeleteOMG I need these!!
ReplyDeleteI do like the colors! I want them all. I currently own all in the permanent line. Thank you for sharing this great news.
ReplyDeleteTest My Teal... I'm heading to Target to hunt these babies down!
ReplyDeleteZadidoll! What's going on with August Birchbox? ;)
DeleteWas getting groceries/toiletries/etc today at CVS, Walmart, & Target - and I stopped by the beauty section of course - but none of the three stores here have them. I'm hoping we'll get them soon though...I want them (especially the green, so gorg!)
ReplyDeleteWow, this is so exciting! I think it is a little sad that I screeched of excitement when I saw your blog post though! I am a little obsessed with Maybelline color tattoos. Thanks you so much for posting about these!
ReplyDeleteWow, I think I need all of those! Such gorgeous colours.

The painted purple in the permanent line does like the blue on by in this one for me. It was so patchy. I just use it strictly as a base now.
ReplyDeleteIve been everywhere and can't find these!!! Dying!!
ReplyDeleteDo you know when they will be released? And are they a Target only collection? Thanks Susan
ReplyDeleteI don't know about whether they're Target only or not, but I am the only person I know of so far who has found them, and that's where I got mine. I imagine they must have been released already, since I bought mine in a store XD
DeleteSay whaaaaaaaa? Limited Edition Jewel Tones? I love everything about that statement.
ReplyDeleteI gotta find these...so pretty!!
